How it changed

Bedford Street, North Shields, early works and paving laid
Bedford Street from the same vantage point, excavation through to the new paving

The transformation of the streets in North Shields delivers high quality paving, mature trees and enhanced seating to create a welcoming, modern environment.

The scheme brings Bedford Street in line with other regeneration projects across the town, with new lighting, landscaping and an expanded pedestrian area. Restricting vehicle access to essential services improves safety and unlocks new opportunities for outdoor cafe seating, business use and community events.

The investment forms part of North Tyneside Council's wider vision to revitalise North Shields.

Our role

Working for BCE Northern, we provided quantity surveying and commercial management under the NEC4 contract: valuations, change control and the commercial reporting that keeps a town centre scheme of this length on track.
